Its all in the head

Yesterday, I called up Dad around 7 in the evening to find out that he was taking a nap and the phone ring woke him up.

"So what's up?"
"Nothing, just got up, will leave for office."
"Erm, excuse me, isn't it like 5 in the evening?" (takin the time difference into consideration)
"No, its 7 in the morning. Its Saturday,22nd, and I shall be off to office soon."
"Its Friday. 21st and its evening time. Don't you have a newspaper around?"
"I do. But its yesterday's."
(Note to self: start freaking out.)
"Dad, are you still half asleep? Wash your face or something, it is still the 21st."
(Read: What the hell are you talking about?? Pinch yourself hard!! Wake up!! Look around!! Shake your head!!)
But that was about as much I could do sitting 1204miles away with this stupid receiver in my hand, which wasn't transmitting any kind of sense to him.

Turned out that he was half asleep and all of this was a result of being woken up abruptly.. Phew! That sure did scare me! But it sure made me wonder.. about a hell lot of things..

Its all in the head, isn't it? Its all about what you think it is. If you think you are from Mars, I would have a hard time convincing you that you aren't. Coming closer home, if you think it is a beautiful day, I would have a hard time ruining it. (Not that I would, but try catching the drift.)
Its all about how you perceive things, people, situations. They really might not be of the color you think they are of, but you still believe that your perceived hue is the correct one. Even the most rational of the thought processes are directly proportional to the way they are perceived. So what is real then? You think you are loved, are you? You feel hated, unwanted.. are you? Or is it just the way you want to see things as? What makes sense? Living in your world, or tearing it down to reach out to the muck and analyze it? And mind you, it might not be muck after all.. So what does make sense? Your perception versus 'reality'. Is reality even worth analyzing?

100s of questions.. But this is how my thought process goes.. Chains of questions.. Each leading to another aspect.. Another perception of another situation.. But its all in the head, right?

We do not view things as they are;
We view things as we are.

its true ....
its all in da head ...and its good ..isnt it..?
so many ppl...soo many heads ...so many thoughts.. so many perceptions...

and i think thrs only ppls perceptions no reality....
"reality is just an illusion..albeit a very persistent one"--albert einstein
i believe in lukin reality straight in d eyes n denyin it
I think evrything I imagine is true ... is real

soooo its alll abt perceptions

and as u said everything depends on how u perceive things...on how u look upon everything around u...
it all comes down to this ..

wht is our will...whts our wish
thus our mind becums the most powerful thing...

my will shall decide if i wanna use a knife 2 cut my b'day cake or slit my throat
its such a pleasent thought that world will b wht i want it 2 b....
it can b as good as the heavens if i believe.
Still...
still...v pursue happiness bt are never able 2 tuch it...
v live in a place where ppl seek solace in others sorrows..
jus becuz they PERCEIVE things differently
our perceptions are influenced by spurious truths...wch v sooo readily believe in
we cheat our best friends and suspect our love....
jus becuz v let other less important things influence our thoughts !!!!
y are our thoughts always inclined towards negativity
pessimists-- thts wht v becum...
jus like hinduism perhaps e1 optimism is on d verge of extinction
"the place whr optimism flourishes is a lunatic asylum"
ironically ppl find optimism depressing
all i wanna say is there is a big chest...full of treasures v want and v hv the goddamn key to bt we dont use it...
the chest contains happiness, success, love and things wch make our dumb existence ... a beautiful lyf and d key is ur "perception"
still v keep this chest locked..

jus ask urself y....

Gauri, well written and composed. The small incidents of life that can serve so much if we only bothered to look.
The reason I commented is this. The title should be- "It's all in the head" and not "Its all in the head" because, the I,T,S here is actually It is and not, its as in "Its engine is brilliant". So as an 'I' is omitted, as apostrophe should have been used. Ha ha.

and then there's objectivity too. cos then, you can place things in a manner in which another person with the same upbringing and influences can judge the situation.

Sharath, me too a serious fan and follower of Objectivism. (Ayn Rand, ain't it?) Well, but its so difficult to find people of the same upbringing.. And again, upbringing isn't everything, is it? Its the character of the person that makes the choices.. and the character, in itself is a product of his instincts, chance, choices.. and whether he/she actually is aware of his personality.. and understands that its not an inherent property and can well be modified and enhanced, if wanted.
